Afghanistan: armed conflict continues to exact a heavy toll
After more than twenty years of being in the country, the ICRC is still providing a range of services to those affected by armed conflict in Afghanistan. These include supporting medical facilities, providing emergency assistance materials, visiting detainees, putting families back in touch and educating children about the dangers of unexploded munitions.

Kabul, Military Training Centre. An ICRC delegate informs soldiers about International Humanitarian Law.

Throughout the year, ICRC staff hold dissemination sessions with political representatives, Afghan Red Crescent Society staff and volunteers, community elders, members of religious circles, journalists and university students, officers, sergeants and soldiers of the Afghan National Army and the Afghan National Police. In accordance with its international mandate, the ICRC also monitors whether weapon bearers are respecting the provisions of international humanitarian law.
