Goma’s Red Cross hall was the setting for an ICRC photo exhibition from 18 to 22 August 2009. The exhibition illustrated the work of the ICRC and the DRC Red Cross in North and South Kivu during 2008 and the first quarter of 2009. The focus was on help for the silent, forgotten victims of the country’s conflicts.
Internationally known photographers Ron Haviv, Carl de Keyzer and Lembryk Wojtek all contributed photographs, along with ICRC communication delegate Pedram Yazdi.
Titled Our Kivu. Your move., the exhibition invited visitors to identify themselves with real-life situations and to share their own humanitarian gestures as part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement’s Our world. Your move. campaign.
The event ended with a Humanitarian Song Contest for groups that had written songs inspired by a Red Cross training session. First place went to Groupe Solférino with Respectez le DIH (Respect IHL), followed by Styla International’s Croix-Rouge sans frontière (Red Cross without borders) and Merci CICR (Thank-you ICRC) from Maisha Soul. Following September recording sessions, the three winning tracks will be popping up in ICRC radio campaigns and elsewhere.
