About the event

How are new technologies changing the search for missing people? What opportunities and risks does this shift entail? And what should humanitarians know about it?

To mark the International Day of the Disappeared, we have organized a discussion with Florence Anselmo, Head of the Central Tracing Agency at the ICRC, to discuss how the search for missing people has been adapting to the ongoing digitalization of humanitarian contexts. We will look at considerations, examples and ongoing discussions to see how technology can help addressing the increase in number of people losing contacts - and what risks we must be mindful of.

The discussion is part of the August thematic path – Clarifying the fate of the missing in the digital age.

The series

The Digital Dilemmas Dialogues are a series of one-on-one discussions about the humanitarian digital transformation, its implications and the work ahead. This 30-odd minutes chat brings together prominent experts and stakeholders from various sectors to explore the humanitarian consequences of a new type or trend in digital technologies each month, and offer reflections on what is coming next.

The Digital Dilemmas Dialogues are a component of the DigitHarium, which is part of the Humanitarian Data and Trust Initiative (HDTI).
