Bhutan Red Cross Society and Maldivian Red Crescent sign partnership framework agreements with the ICRC

As a milestone in the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC's) relationship with National Societies (NSs), two Partnership Framework Agreements (PFAs) were signed for three years (2023-2025) with the Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC) and the Bhutan Red Cross Society (BRCS).

Dragyel Tenzin Dorjee, Secretary General, BRCS, signed the PFA with Kedir Awol Omar, Head of the Regional Delegation for India, Nepal, Bhutan and the Maldives, in the New Delhi office. It demonstrated the shared commitment of ICRC and BRCS to continue working towards achieving the highest humanitarian impact.

Speaking on the occasion, Kedir Awol Omar said that the ICRC and BRCS would continue to work together to build further the humanitarian response capacity of the BRCS.

BRCS Secretary General, Dragyel Tenzin Dorjee, described the agreement as an important step toward strengthening BRCS-ICRC cooperation and collaboration.

In an online ceremony, Fathimath Himya, Secretary General, MRC, signed the PFA with Kedir Awol Omar, Head of the Regional Delegation for India, Nepal, Bhutan and the Maldives. The renewed association was essential in further developing and strengthening the cooperation as part of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement.

Kedir Awol Omar said that the agreement would further reinforce the partnership between the ICRC and MRC, whose commitment to people in the Maldives is unwavering.

MRC Secretary General, Fathimath Himya, thanked the ICRC for its supporting role in MRC's development and emphasized the importance of extending and strengthening the partnership through the PFA.

The extension of the PFAs would enable the ICRC-NS partnerships to have a greater humanitarian impact. In addition to strengthening ICRC's position as their primary Movement partner, the signing of PFAs with these two relatively young NSs also contributes to the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement complementarity.

The signing of the PFAs was more than just a formality. Discussions leading to the signing of the agreement included humanitarian priorities, capacities, aspirations, and achievements and challenges of the ICRC-NS partnership. The two key areas of cooperation in these agreements were emergency response and capacity-building for the National Societies.
