Commemorating the Missing

'Commemorating the Missing' portrays the efforts of the families of the missing in Nepal to honour their loved ones. Fifty-nine commemorative memorials such as water wells, pillars, gates, waiting places, and temples were constructed in the name of missing persons across 39 districts.

Apart from keeping the memory of the missing persons alive through such positive initiatives they also give recognition to the families. That the memorial structures have public utility and benefit all community members also helped bring them another step closer to being reintegrated into and supported by their communities.

Unable to undertake the final rites for their loved ones creating commemorative spaces enabled them to collectively share their feeling of loss while simultaneously building awareness and solidarity.
