Greece: Family reunified after 5 years apart

Five years. This is how long Salwa's personal odyssey lasted to be reunited with her family. It was in early 2016 when Salwa got separated from her husband and three sons while fleeing from conflict and violence in Syria.

Salwa found protection in Greece while the rest of the family members got also separated in their efforts to find safety. ICRC teams in five offices (Beirut, Cairo, Gaza, Jerusalem and Athens) coordinated their efforts to support the reunification of the family in Greece. Finally, on Tuesday 13th of July, after years of separation, agony and pain, Salwa held all her children again in her arms.

Salwa's story is a testimony to the power of cooperation between the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement components that work across the globe to bring families together.
