Pakistan: The Humanitarian Podcast on disability inclusion

The third episode of "The Humanitarian Podcast", featuring Muhammad Iqbal, disability inclusion adviser of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Pakistan, explores how people with disabilities define inclusion and what steps need to be taken to help them lead more fulfilling lives.

In one word, disability inclusion means to have 'autonomy' in the choices of one's life – to live the way one wants to.

– Mohammad Iqbal, disability inclusion adviser, ICRC

Iqbal, who is visually impaired, discusses inclusive policymaking, equal education and employment opportunities, sports inclusion and capacity-building of people with disabilities. He stresses on an increased representation of people with disabilities at the community and institutional levels.

The ICRC's Physical Rehabilitation Programme (PRP) focuses on the full social integration of people with physical disabilities, who are affected by overlapping issues such as armed conflict and other violence, poverty, gender-based discrimination and lack of access to health facilities.

"The Humanitarian Podcast", an initiative of the ICRC in Pakistan, is a first-of-it s-kind podcast in the country that serves as a space to explore the triumphs, opportunities and challenges surrounding humanitarian needs and initiatives in Pakistan through conversations with people we work for and with.
