Pakistan: 5th Bilingual Essay Writing Competition launched

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Pakistan is pleased to announce the 5th edition of the annual Bilingual Essay Writing Competition. The topic for this year's competition is "Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities".

The competition is open to all residents of Pakistan, and the last date of submission is 30 September 2018. Entries can be submitted in both, English and Urdu.

This year's topic aims to promote a discussion on ways to encourage a more inclusive environment for people with disability and to get a wide array of thoughts about the same.

We hope that the competition will inspire ideas on ways to galvanize the economic and social inclusion of people with disabilities. With close to a million people with disabilities representing 2.38% of the total population of Pakistan, the society and its institutions cannot afford to turn a blind eye to their inclusion. After all, disability can be a physical limitation but nothing can limit a person's skills and dreams.

We invite everyone to share their vision for the empowerment and social inclusion that can help the society thrive and prosper.

Over the previous years, the competition has received overwhelming response by way of hundreds of entries on important humanitarian topics. Last year, over 600 people sent in their essays.

We are optimistic that the topic this year would also promote humanitarian law and principles, a discussion on the humanitarian challenges in today's world and highlight humanitarian stories from across the country.
