The Scarf of Hope for families of the missing

The one-kilometre-long Scarf of Hope, commemorating missing persons in Peru, has for the first time been brought to Europe. Displayed wrapped around the ICRC headquarters building in Geneva, it marks the International Day of the Disappeared celebrated each year on 30 August. It stands as a vibrant and original symbol of hope for the thousands of people that disappeared in Peru between 1980 and 2000 and whose mothers and fathers, wives and husbands, daughters and sons still do not know what happened to them.
