South Sudan: Facts and figures for 2019

In 2019, the ICRC continued to treat large numbers of people with injuries stemming from violence in South Sudan. Our medical staff performed over 3,000 surgical and medical procedures and more than 458,000 outpatient consultations.

The ICRC also provided food to 267,000 people and helped boost food production by providing seeds and tools to over 420,000 people.

Highlights of our work in South Sudan in 2019

6,380 metric tonnes of food were distributed to 267,700 people
787,000 heads of livestock were vaccinated to protect them from diseases
Provided access to safe drinking water to 266,800 people
Evacuated 361 people wounded in armed confrontations
Supported 3,390 people living with disabilities with mobility devices and physiotherapy
Visited 5,700 detainees throughout the country
Trained 4,400 military personnel in international humanitarian law
