Like many other soldiers around the world, these Ukrainian army officers are learning the laws of war by planning simulated operations on a virtual battlefield. The ICRC uses this method in a number of countries.
As Michael Pymble, an ICRC armed forces delegate, explains: "When we can show them what the terrain looks like in 3D – where things are, where the military objectives are in relation to civilian objects, where people are – and they're able to see that in 3D, it just makes it far more accessible for them, and the results are much better in the planning exercises that we give them."
