World Humanitarian Summit: Istanbul and beyond
Perspectives and pledges of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement on the occasion of the World Humanitarian Summit
On the eve of the first World Humanitarian Summit, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is providing its perspective and experience on humanitarian action, as a contribution to the global conversation prompted by this event. The WHS is an opportunity for us to consider our strengths and weaknesses in the face of today's rapidly growing and changing humanitarian needs.
In its report Istanbul and beyond, the Movement clarifies its positions on several issues that should be high on the humanitarian agenda, such as:
- humanitarian principles;
- access and proximity;
- international humanitarian law;
- accountability to the people we serve;
- volunteer safety;
- sexual and gender based violence;
- health services in crisis.
The report also sets out our pledges and calls to action on these issues.
