Sun, salt and sustainability: Improving hygiene in Zimbabwe’s prisons

Helping to ensure that places of detention are clean and hygienic remains a priority for the ICRC who have been working in Zimbabwean prisons since 2009. In 2015, the ICRC introduced a chlorine production pilot project at Marondera Prison together with the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) with the goal of replacing the purchase of disinfectants by the ZPCS with a simpler, most cost-effective solution. In this video, we witness the impact of partnership between ZPCS and the ICRC aimed at finding affordable and sustainable solutions to keep places of detention clean.
