Event Information

This conference, organized alongside the All-European International Humanitarian and Refugee Law Moot Court Competition, looked into how migrants and refugees are protected under international humanitarian, refugee and human rights law. It focused both on the legal frameworks as well as particular questions of concern, such as the principle of non-refoulement, search and rescue / interception operations and extraterritorial applicability of the law, obligations of transit countries, among others. By looking at the legal frameworks through the lenses of gaps and complementarity, the conference aimed at reconciling some of the current issues and presenting ways to deal with them in a comprehensive manner. The conference took the advantage of a notable gathering of legal scholars from the region in one place to use the collective intelligence to think critically about current legal issues around migration and displacement and maybe even suggest new ways of addressing those issues.
