Protecting People Deprived of their Liberty during International Armed Conflict

This leaflet briefly describes the main aspects of the work done by the ICRC to assist and protect persons deprived of their freedom during international armed conflict. It draws particular attention to the plight of prisoners of war and civilian internees, who are protected by International Humanitarian Law that the holding authorities have to respect. It also outlines the ICRC's approach to preserving their lives and dignity and the programmes it develops to these ends.
