Chile

In Chile, the ICRC works in cooperation with the Chilean Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The ICRC raises awareness of international humanitarian law (IHL) and works to ensure the armed and security forces uphold IHL, international human rights law and humanitarian principles. This country is covered by the regional delegation in Brazil.

The Chilean Red Cross with the support of the ICRC runs a health care day for the isolated Mapuche community living on the island.

Our work with the Chilean Red Cross

In the regional delegation, cooperation work is based above all on providing support to the National Society to develop its capacities. Cooperation is an active part of the humanitarian response before, during and after emergencies or conflicts. Among our most important activities are responding to migration in the region, training first aid teams that work in dangerous areas and delicate situations and strengthening accountability, transparency and financial sustainability mechanisms.
