ICRC Emergency Response in Lebanon

ICRC Lebanon distribution

Following the recent escalation in Lebanon, civilian deaths and injuries continue to rise. Entire families have been forced to flee their homes with little time to gather belongings, leaving behind their livelihoods. They now face immense hardship in finding food, shelters, clean water, and lifesaving care.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is urgently appealing for parties to the conflict to adhere to international humanitarian law and to protect and respect civilian life and infrastructure.

In response to the recent escalation, ICRC teams are working to provide life-saving assistance to individuals and families in great need.

Key actions during September in response to the crisis in Lebanon

Delivering vital medical supplies

5 emergency medical service centres were provided with medical supplies sufficient to treat 100 severely wounded patients. Saida Governmental Hospital also received a critical medicine for anaesthesia and dressing sets to replenish their dwindling stocks.

Ensuring essential resources for primary health care

6 primary healthcare centres received medications and wound-care materials, ensuring that patients with acute and chronic illnesses can receive treatments they desperately need.

Providing lifeline support to displaced families

180 internally displaced families received blankets and mattresses.

Supporting vulnerable communities

400 families in the southern city of Tyre received essential household items and hygiene parcels.

Preparing to operate a trauma centre

We are working around the clock in close collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health to set up a critical trauma centre at Rafik Hariri University Hospital.

We remain committed to continuing to help people affected by armed conflict and other forms of violence and to enhancing respect for international humanitarian law. In the days ahead, we plan to supply medical items to health care facilities and provide cash, food, and household items to thousands of families in need. We also want to get essential supplies to displaced people living in collective shelters, together with the Lebanese Red Cross.

The recent escalations have deepened the suffering of already vulnerable communities in Lebanon and the wider region. As tensions continue to rise, the threat of a regional conflict looms, risking even greater devastation for people already struggling to cope with the ongoing violence.
