Call for entries: regional selection competition for the "Jean Pictet" competition

The regional delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross for Mexico and Central America announces:

the Regional Selection Contest for Institutions of Higher Education wishing to participate in the 40th Edition of the Jean-Pictet International Humanitarian Law Competition, to be held from 25 February to 4 March 2023 in Durres, Albania.

The call is open to teams that comply with the requirements set forth in the Competition Regulations (particularly Article 3), and whose members study in one of the countries covered by the Regional Delegation (Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and Nicaragua).

Selection process

Due to the characteristics of the Competition, the tests applied to select the winning team will be conducted in English and measure the participants' knowledge of international humanitarian law as well as their ability to apply it to practical situations and cases. The three members of each team must therefore have a sufficient command of the English language to be able to interact with the other contestants as well as the jury.

The teams considered eligible to participate in the selection process will receive instructions regarding the tests to be administered, the deadlines, as well as the rules of operation related to the process.

In view of the regional nature of the Contest, the tests will be conducted virtually.

Dates to remember

• Submission of applications (resumés of the three team members, including the study program and the semester / year they are studying): no later than Monday, 24 October 2022
• Confirmation of eligible teams (email sent to each team): Wednesday, 26 October 2022
• Starting date of the tests: Friday, 28 October 2022

Prize

The International Committee of the Red Cross will cover the registration fee (including room and board) as well as travel costs to Albania for the three members of the winning team.

Important: To expedite the administrative procedures involved, the members of the competing teams must hold a valid passport and agree to comply with the requirements for entry into Albania.
