Colombia: Armed conflict lingers on for civilians in Catatumbo

The peace agreement signed between the government and the FARC-EP has brought no respite for people living in the region of Catatumbo, Norte de Santander, in north-eastern Colombia. Far from a ceasefire, the shooting is non-stop, night and day, as several armed groups battle for control of the region.

"Every time I hear shooting, I think about what happened to me." Despite the peace agreement, people in the Catatumbo region have a front-row seat as the war continues to play out, and to take its toll. Astrid got caught in the crossfire one day on her way home from school one day and was shot in the leg.
