Ethiopia: Facts and figures 2015

The ICRC is present in Ethiopia since 1977 following the Ethio-Somali conflict. Currently, it conducts its operations across the country from the Addis Ababa delegation and a sub-delegation in Mekelle, Tigray in close cooperation with the Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS). Below you will find a summary of the key activities of the ICRC in 2015.

Below is an overview of the ICRC's work in Ethiopia during 2015.

41,309  detainees were visited in federal and regionaI prisons and 323 detainees were followed individually.
11,973 free phone calls provided to refugees and migrant returnees who could exchange family news with their relatives.
46,400 persons assisted with essential household items and shelter material following intercommunal clashes and displacement.
Over 68,100 people in rural areas were provided better access to clean water and sanitation services.

6,334  persons with physical disabilities accessed a service within 10 assisted physical rehabilitation centers.
