Ethiopia: Demining support is helping people reclaim fields and rebuild their lives

Ethiopia is one of the most landmine contaminated countries in the world, with 314 areas suspected to be mined.

In April 2016, the ICRC delegation in Ethiopia facilitated a manual demining training for over 20 professional deminers of the Ethiopian Defense forces.

Manual demining is considered the pillar of humanitarian demining operations as it allows for populations to use their mine-polluted fields again and rebuild their lives after conflict. The training course is designed to instruct deminers with the technical skills and attitude necessary to perform their duties during demining operations.
