Pakistan: The Humanitarian Podcast on Islam and IHL

The second episode of "The Humanitarian Podcast" explores the degree of compatibility between Islamic principles and the modern principles of international humanitarian law (IHL), offering insights into how Islamic principles can help in limiting the devastation and suffering caused by conflict, violence and other humanitarian disasters.

The relationship between Islamic law and international humanitarian law offers a unique avenue to strengthen understanding on humanitarian principles and issues, in light of Islamic principles.

Over the centuries, classical Muslim jurists have provided impressive legal literature, which, just as IHL, brings humanity in war. To understand and build upon this body of work, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) engages actively with Islamic scholars across various countries including Pakistan, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Brunei, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

"The Humanitarian Podcast", an initiative of the ICRC in Pakistan, is a first-of-its-kind podcast that serves as a space to explore the triumphs, opportunities and challenges surrounding humanitarian needs and initiatives in Pakistan through conversations regarding our work and the people we work for.
