Kuwait Red Crescent Society visits ICRC projects in Cox’s Bazar
Representatives of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development visited the District Sadar Hospital in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, on 17 July. The visit was the first of its kind and was hosted by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) and the hospital management.
Headed by Maha Al Barjas, Secretary General of the KRCS and Vice-President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies for the Asia-Pacific region, the KRCS team visited the emergency department of the hospital and conducted a meeting on the sidelines with the hospital’s management and staff, the ICRC and the BDRCS. The ICRC in Bangladesh has been supporting the emergency department of the District Sadar Hospital in Cox’s Bazar since 2019 to strengthen the emergency health-care services in the region.
During the visit, Al Barjas thanked the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development for supporting the project in partnership with the KRCS and the ICRC. She also reiterated the importance of addressing the evolving humanitarian needs of displaced communities to improve their living conditions.
This visit follows the grant agreement signed in January 2022 with the KRCS for 1 million US Dollars to support the ICRC’s ongoing operations focused on health, water, habitat and economic security to improve the everyday living conditions of the displaced communities in Cox’s Bazar.
