In November 2001, 20 young men left their homes in Jogimara village, central Nepal, to work on an airport runway in Kotbada, some 800 km away in mid-western Nepal. Four months later, it was reported on the radio that 17 workers from Jogimara had been killed during "security operations". Their families were in disarray. Just over a decade later, we helped these grieving families make the long journey to the graves of their beloved sons and brothers, where they performed farewell rituals to let them finally rest in peace.
