New member of ICRC appointed

Geneva (ICRC) – The Assembly of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), has appointed Laura Sadis as its newest member.

Ms Sadis, from Lugano in Switzerland, is a chartered tax adviser and holds a degree in political economy from the University of Zurich.

Between 1988 and 2015, she held a number of political and official positions in Switzerland, at cantonal and federal level. Her last appointment before being elected as an ICRC member, was as head of department of Economy and Finance of the Ticino State Council.

She will take up her duties on 1 January 2016.

The Assembly, composed of between 15 and 25 members of Swiss nationality, is the supreme governing body of the ICRC. It oversees all the ICRC's activities, decides the institutional strategy, adopts major policy documents and approves the organization's objectives and budgets. There are currently 19 members in the Committee.
