Jordan: Recognising the importance of career development for people with physical disabilities

The ICRC recognises the need to better address the issue of social inclusion in the physical rehabilitation services it provides globally.

To do this, it teamed up with the Adecco Group Foundation to create the first-of-its-kind training on career development for people with physical disabilities, which was attended by 18 of its Physical Rehabilitation Programme (PRP) staff working in Asia, Africa, South America and the Middle East.

During the four-day programme, held in June in Amman, participants were introduced to the tools needed to provide training on practical job acquisition skills, such as career aptitude identification, networking, resumé development, as well as job interviews.

The training is a first step for the ICRC staff to help people with physical disabilities pursue career opportunities that will help them to realise their full potential in society.

The ICRC and the Adecco Group Foundation hope the initiative will create a basis for positive social change for people with physical disabilities in PRP-supported countries around the world.
