Thailand: ICRC president discusses contemporary challenges to humanitarian action

Peter Maurer, President of the ICRC, recently completed a 3-day visit to Bangkok where he delivered the biennial 7th Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Lecture on "Contemporary Challenges to Humanitarian Action".

In this interview, Maurer discusses the increasingly complex humanitarian landscape, and highlights the importance of regional cooperation in delivering a more meaningful response to humanitarian crises, in particular to the challenge of migration in Asia.

The ICRC first established a presence in Thailand in 1975 to support its operations in the country as well as in Cambodia, Laos and Viet Nam. Today, the delegation has been working in Thailand and beyond for 40 years.
