Queues of several kilometres are common at the Berezovoe checkpoint in Donbas region. Until recently, people waiting to cross the demarcation line were using nearby bushes as toilets, unaware of the hidden danger posed by mines and unexploded munitions. A number of them were injured as a result. The ICRC has therefore put up warning signs and installed portable toilets so that people stay on the road.
