Ukraine crisis: Delivering aid to Schastye on the front line

Schastye. The name of this small town in Ukraine's Lugansk region means "happiness," in both Russian and Ukrainian. But Schastye lies on the front line, and has suffered extensive damage.

This video, filmed on 16 December last year, follows an ICRC team as it delivers supplies to help repair homes damaged by the fighting.

In January, after this video was made, fighting flared up again. The power station was damaged (not for the first time), depriving half a million people of electricity just as winter began. Resources are scarce and the needs are many – food, medicine, and materials to rebuild homes.

As everywhere in the region, it is the ordinary people of the town who are suffering the consequences.
