The stories behind the images

The ICRC Physical Rehabilitation Programme is pleased to invite you to an event to mark the 40th anniversary of its activities towards persons with disabilities.

Since 1979, when the Physical Rehabilitation Programme (PRP) was formally established, the approach of the ICRC towards persons with disabilities has evolved considerably and has been adapting to changing contexts and needs.

To celebrate the PRP's 40th anniversary, a short film recording the evolution of the ICRC's approach will be premiered.

Yves Daccord, Director-General of the ICRC, will present the key points of discussions held by the ICRC on the rehabilitation and inclusion of people with disabilities.

A discussion will follow with a representative of the Geneva Academy on the main outcomes of its study on Disability and Armed Conflict.

The anniversary will also be the opportunity to launch the Photo Exhibition: Disability and Armed Conflict at the Humanitarium in collaboration with the ICRC and the Geneva Academy.

Stephen Wilkinson of the Diakonia organization will then present the concept the Photo Exhibition: Disability and Armed Conflict which will be launched at the Humanitarium in collaboration with the ICRC and the Geneva Academy.

The session will close with Giles Duley, the photographer, showcasing one of his photographs and sharing the stories behind the image.

The event will be followed by a cocktail with an exhibition of Giles Duley's best artwork.
