31st Surgical Seminar "The management of patients with war wounds", Geneva, 10 to 15 December 2017

ICRC headquarters & Ecogia training centre in Geneva

Onsite

About the event

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is organizing its 31st surgical seminar in Geneva.

It will be held at Ecogia training centre from 3.00 p.m. on Sunday 10 December to 4.00 p.m. on Friday 15 December.

The main objective of the seminar is to introduce participants – surgeons, anaesthetists and registered nurses with little experience in treating war-wounded patients – to the practice of war surgery at the ICRC. There will be separate sessions for anaesthetists, surgeons, and nurses, as well as plenary sessions.

Target audience: Surgeons, anaesthetists, emergency physicians and registered nurses, who are interested in working for the ICRC in the field.

The seminar will be restricted to a total of 35 participants.

The focus of the seminar will be on these subjects: field experiences and pertinent aspects of international humanitarian law; surgical and anaesthetic techniques; and wound management and patient care in testing conditions.

The language of the seminar is English. The format is intentionally informal; discussions in previous seminars have been lively.

The cost of the seminar is
CHF 1,250.00 per participant for the surgeons (included ballistic visit, accommodation, breakfast and lunch during the seminar)
CHF 1,000.00 per participant for anaesthetists and nurses (included accommodation and all meals during the seminar, except for one dinner)

Participants or their sponsors are responsible for covering the expenses of travelling to and from the Ecogia training centre, meals that are not included and for any extra nights spent before and after the seminar.

Ballistic laboratory center

The hosts are Mr Mathieu Glardon, Msc forens., Institut für Rechtsmedizin der Universität Bern and the ICRC Surgical Coordinator.

The bus for Hitzkirch leaves from ICRC headquarters at 3.00 p.m. on Sunday 10 December 2017. Participants will stay overnight in the IPH and be back in Geneva on Monday afternoon 11 December 2017.
