About the event

The past decade has seen a surge in the use of mobile telecommunications, messaging apps and social media. As they become more accessible around the world, these technologies are also being used by the humanitarian sector to coordinate responses, communicate with staff and volunteers, and engage with the people they serve.

From processing data and metadata, to understanding their legal and policy implications and best learn how to mitigate the risks they generate for affected population, this public conference will give concrete examples of what are the digital risks in armed conflicts and how this complex landscape requires that humanitarian organizations learn how to more systematically assess, understand, and mitigate the risks involved in program activities that generate metadata.

On August 29, we will embark the audience deep into the digital world and discover its main challenges regarding humanitarian relief services. Through the experience of an expert panel, the discussion will be conducted in an interview-style format moderated by Fiona Mbabazi, journalist and news anchor RBA.

The event will be followed by a cocktail.
