About the event

On September 21, the European Parliament Standing Rapporteur on Humanitarian Aid and the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement organized a panel debate on the Fundamental Principles

50 years ago, the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement adopted the Fundamental Principles (Neutrality, Independence, Impartiality, Humanity, Universality, Unity, Voluntary Service) at the 20th International Conference of the Red Cross in held Vienna, Austria. These principles remain more than ever relevant, not only as a daily challenge for Red Cross Red Crescent action in the field, but also in the framework of the upcoming World Humanitarian Summit.

That is why the ICRC and the Red Cross EU Office have engaged with the Standing Rapporteur on Humanitarian Aid of the European Parliament, member of the European Parliament Enrique Guerrero, to organise a panel debate on this subject. This debate took place on September 21, in the margins of the European Parliament Development Committee session, from 19h00 to 20h30 in the European Parliament Information Office in Belgium.

From 21 September until 2 October, a photo exhibition on the Fundamental Principles can be visited at the European Parliament Information Office. Access is free. Opening hours are Monday to Thursday from 9h30 to 12h and from 13h to 16h30, and Friday 9h30 to 12h.
