About the event

The Symposium on Cybersecurity and Data Protection in Humanitarian Action will bring together experts from humanitarian organizations, data protection authorities, civil society, governments, the private sector, and academia to examine how to mitigate some of the risks that digitalization and digital transformation pose to humanitarian action and contexts.

The two days of the Symposium will unfold as follows:

  • November 27: Opening session, panel discussions, closed-door expert working groups, with focused discussions covering pressing challenges for the humanitarian sector in the area of data protection and digital risks;
  • November 28: Panel discussions, closed-door working groups (continued), wrap-up panel discussions and closing session.

The closed-door expert working groups will take place under  Chatham House Rule.

The event is co-organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) and the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC), with the support of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade of Luxembourg.
