The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is organizing its 33rd surgical seminar in Geneva.
It will be held at Ecogia training centre from Sunday 8 December to Friday 13 December.
The main objective of the seminar is to introduce participants – surgeons and anaesthetists with little experience in treating war-wounded patients – to the practice of war surgery at the ICRC. There will be separate sessions for anaesthetists and surgeons, as well as plenary sessions.
Target audience: Surgeons and anaesthetists, who are interested in working for the ICRC in the field.
The seminar will be restricted to a total of 30 participants.
The focus of the seminar will be on these subjects: field experiences and pertinent aspects of international humanitarian law; surgical and anaesthetic techniques; and wound management and patient care in testing conditions.
One full day of ballistic training, and teaching of external fixation of long bones are incorporated in the course.
The language of the seminar is English. The format is intentionally informal; discussions in previous seminars have been lively.
The cost of the seminar is:
• CHF 1,500.00 per participant (including accommodation and all meals during the seminar, except for one dinner)
Participants or their sponsors are responsible for covering the expenses of travelling to and from the Ecogia training centre, meals that are not included and for any extra nights spent before and after the seminar.
The War Surgery Seminar is now recognized by the SSC (Société Suisse de Chirurgie – Swiss Surgical Society).
The course is rewarded by 32 Continued Medical Education (CME) Credits. These credits will only be given to course participants who attended all lectures.
Course participants who miss any lecture will only receive a certificate of attendance.
