About the event

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation in Colombo and the Bandaranaike International Diplomatic Training Institute of Sri Lanka (BIDTI) are co-organizing a series of webinars on contemporary challenges to international humanitarian law (IHL).

The second webinar in the series will focus on the emergence of new means and methods of warfare that rely heavily on digital technologies, which pose significant challenges to the implementation and interpretation of IHL. The discussion will address the need for constant deliberation by all stakeholders on the application of IHL to new and emerging technologies such as cyber tools and increasingly autonomous weapons systems.

The webinar will feature three speakers representing three stakeholder groups – the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, armed forces and the ICRC – who will contribute to the discussion from their respective expertise and experience drawn from their participation in initiatives that seek to respond to these challenges.

The event is scheduled for 2 February 2021 from 2.30pm to 4pm, Sri Lanka time.

Registration deadline: 1 February 2021
