The ICRC’s Assembly elects a new member

Geneva (ICRC) – At its meeting of 29 August 2024, the Assembly of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) elected Ms Annelis Lüscher Hämmerli as its newest member. She will take up her duties on 19 December 2024.

Annelis Lüscher Hämmerli was born in Bern, Switzerland. After completing a degree in biology in Bern and gaining a PhD at the Max Planck Institute for Limnology in Plön, she completed a master's degree in finance at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich and the University of Zurich and obtained a certificate in IFRS accounting. In 2004, she joined Swiss Life, where she held various positions in asset and risk management, ending her time at Swiss Life Asset Managers as chief risk officer.

In 2020, Annelis Lüscher Hämmerli was appointed chief financial officer of Helvetia Insurance Group. In this role, her focus is on preserving the strong balance sheet of the group and continuously improving financial steering to create long-term value for clients, investors and employees. Since 2019, she has been a member of the board of directors of Berner Kantonalbank, and additionally serves in several subsidiaries of Helvetia Holding as chair/vice-chair or member of the board. She is married and has two children. 

The Assembly, composed of between 15 and 25 members of Swiss nationality, is the supreme governing body of the ICRC. It oversees all the ICRC's activities, decides the institutional strategy, adopts major policy documents and approves the organization's objectives and budgets.
