How to make an online donation

14-05-2014

Find answers to the most common questions about credit card donations made on our website including accepted currencies and how we handle your personal data.

Can I donate for several operations?

No, our online system only allows you to donate for one operation at a time, as this helps to keep the administrative side simple. If you wish to donate for several operations, we ask you to go back to the start and complete the donation process again.

How can I make a donation in a currency not shown on the form?

For online donations made by credit card, we can only accept the currencies listed, i.e. US dollars (USD), euros (EUR), pounds sterling (GBP), Swiss francs (CHF) and the Brazilian real (BRL). Limiting the number of currencies for credit card donations helps us reduce administration costs.
For donations by bank transfer, however, a wider range of currencies is available. In addition to those mentioned above, the following currencies are accepted for bank transfers: Australian dollars (AUD), Canadian dollars (CAD), Japanese yen (YEN), Danish crowns (DKK), Norwegian crowns (NOK) and Swedish crowns (SEK). We can accept donations in any currency by cheque

Which credit cards can I use, and for which currencies?

We can take donations via MasterCard, Visa, American Express (Amex) and the Swiss Postcard. With American Express, only US dollars (USD) are possible. MasterCard and Visa payments are possible in US dollars (USD), euros (EUR), pounds sterling (GBP), Swiss francs (CHF) and the Brazilian real (BRL).

Can I make a donation without giving any personal details?

The ICRC takes great care to protect the personal data of its donors (see our Privacy policy). Any personal data we record is kept confidential. We will not pass it on to anyone for commercial purposes. In fact, you will not even be on our own mailing list unless you check the box marked “Yes, I'm interested in receiving information via email about the ICRC”. But if you still wish to make an anonymous donation, just write "ANO" in the compulsory fields. However, if you want us to acknowledge your donation, you will need to supply a valid e-mail address.

I filled in the form correctly but your site didn’t transfer me to Saferpay, so I couldn’t fill in my credit card details. Why did this happen?

If the Saferpay site is very busy, you might not be able to get in. If that happens, please wait a few seconds, then go back to the form, “refresh” it and try again. If you still can’t access the Saferpay site after several attempts, the problem may lie with your web browser’s security settings. If so, you will need to change them before you can make an online donation.
If the problem continues, please contact us

I was able to get into Saferpay and I gave my credit card number, but the system didn’t accept my payment. Why?

It could be that the credit card is invalid or has expired. Please check with your card issuer or bank.

How can I be certain that the system has accepted my payment?

If you have given a valid e-mail address, you will receive an e-mail acknowledging your donation about 15 minutes later. If you do not receive a confirmation e-mail, you can contact us to request acknowledgement of your donation.
