Our work in France

Our regional delegation in Paris promotes international humanitarian law (IHL) and facilitates ICRC-principled operations through humanitarian diplomacy in the form of dialogue with the government, military, parliament and diplomatic officials, and through cooperation with National Societies, to protect, assist and ensure respect for civilians and detainees in armed conflict and other situations of violence.

It also supports capacity-building initiatives and the restoring family links services of National Societies in Southern and Western Europe, many of which are confronted with separated families and missing people who have fled countries in conflict. The delegation visits people detained and serving sentences in third states, under the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court, the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals and the Kosovo Specialist Chambers (KSC).
