Indonesia and Timor-Leste

The ICRC has been active in Indonesia for 80 years, responding to the evolving humanitarian situation in the country and promoting respect for international humanitarian law (IHL). We have been present in Timor-Leste since 1977.

Our work in Indonesia and Timor-Leste

In Indonesia and Timor-Leste, the ICRC works with the armed forces, policymakers, academics and religious/humanitarian organizations to promote respect for IHL. We also partner with law enforcers to promote international policing standards. We collaborate with different parties in enhancing the emergency preparedness capabilities of first responders through various programmes such as first aid, pre-hospital care and the management of dead bodies. We also respond to humanitarian situations, maintain dialogue on humanitarian topics in Indonesia, Timor-Leste and the South-East Asia region, and help restore family links.
