Niger

In Niger, the ICRC helps people affected by conflict in the south-east and those fleeing fighting in north-east Nigeria. We work with the Red Cross Society of Niger to deliver aid, treat the wounded, provide water and support farmers. We monitor IHL compliance, protect detainees and help them maintain contact with their families.

Our work in Niger

Present in Niger since 1990, the ICRC protects and assists people affected by the consequences of armed conflict and other situations of violence, particularly in the Liptako-Gourma and Lake Chad Basin areas. In collaboration with the Red Cross Society of Niger, we provide assistance by responding to the needs expressed by affected people, with the aim of strengthening their resilience.

Our work with the Niger Red Cross

In the regional delegation, cooperation work is based above all on providing support to the National Society to develop its capacities. Cooperation is an active part of the humanitarian response before, during and after emergencies or conflicts. Among our most important activities are responding to migration in the region, training first aid teams that work in dangerous areas and delicate situations and strengthening accountability, transparency and financial sustainability mechanisms.
